Anesthesia in Cancer Patient

Different combinations of inhalational anesthesia, intravenous anesthesia (propofol), regional anesthesia, and systemic analgesics are used in anesthesia protocols for cancer surgery. Physiological stress that occurs during the perioperative period has the potential to alter tumor cell survival. A state of relative immunosuppression occurs perioperatively as a result of a variety of variables, including the inflammatory reaction to surgery, the anesthetic procedure itself, the anesthetic pharmacological drugs, and the surgical stress response. According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the biggest cause of death globally, accounting for more than 10 million deaths (or around 1 in 6 fatalities globally). Tumor recurrence and metastasis continue to happen and are responsible for a considerable part of cancer deaths despite the significant advancements in cancer therapy. More than 80% of cancer patients get either palliative surgery or tumor excision. An increasing number of patients are undergoing cancer operations as a result of developments in healthcare and technology as well as rising societal expectations.
